Expedition Hero Roles

Similar to the Best Exploration Heroes, the effectiveness of the Best Expedition Heroes in Whiteout Survival largely depends on the specific activity they are participating in. While the tier list at the end of this guide provides a comprehensive overview, the ideal Hero to use will often vary based on the unique requirements of each Expedition activity. In the following sections, we’ll dive deeper into the various roles a Hero can play in Expedition game modes and the types of Heroes you’ll be looking to utilize for each one.

Rally Joining

For most players, rally joining forms the majority of their Expedition gameplay. This involves joining another player’s rally, whether in PvP battles or against Polar Terrors. In this role, the most important factor is the lead Hero in your formation (i.e., the first Hero in your squad). This is because of how buff mechanics operate when joining a rally. Specifically, the 1st Expedition Skill of the lead Hero from the first four rally joiners contributes to the rally’s overall buffs.

However, this mechanic is dynamic – if a later rally joiner uses a lead Hero with a higher-level 1st Expedition Skill than one of the initial four, their skill will replace the lower-level one already included. As such, when joining a rally, it’s crucial to select a Hero whose 1st Expedition Skill provides a meaningful attacking buff to all Troops in the rally. For example, Jessie’s Stand of Arms skill, which boosts the damage dealt by all Troops in the rally by 25% at its maximum level, is a standout option.

There are only a handful of Heroes with these critical skills, and Jessie remains one of the best choices, particularly for F2P players. Here, all three of your selected Heroes contribute their entire Expedition Skill kit to the rally’s buffs.

Because of this, the best Heroes for this role can vary depending on the situation. For instance, you might choose Heroes that buff specific Troop Types to counter the enemy’s composition or those that enhance your troops’ durability when facing large numbers of Marksmen. However, in most cases, the optimal strategy is to deploy your three strongest Heroes from the latest Generation. These Heroes will typically offer superior stats and skills, assuming you’ve prioritized upgrading them effectively.
