Design

GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C Empty

GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller really is a robust piece of kit. The extendable back plate runs the full width of the controller making it feel much less flimsy than many competitors in the space whilst also giving you confidence that your phone isn’t just going to slip out the back during an intense gaming session.

Likewise, the controller is about the same size as a Nintendo Switch once you have slotted your mobile phone into place. In addition, the grips on either side for your hands have clearly been designed to emulate the console controller feel. Both of these together make the GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller super comfy to hold. Indeed, I spent at least 20 hours testing out this controller on popular Mobile Games such as Fortnite, Genshin Impact, and CoD: Mobile, and didn’t once feel any strain in my hands!

Another great thing to see on mobile controllers is a rotating connection slot to make it easier for you to slot your phone in. And, as should be no surprise by now, the GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller does not miss the mark here either! With a rotation angle of up to 45 degrees, it is absolutely no issue getting your phone fitted into place.

For those who enjoy a bit of customization, you’ll be pleased to hear about the G8 Galileo’s magnetic faceplate. This allows you to easily remove the silver faceplate that comes with the base model and replace it with another faceplate in the design of your choice, though you’ll need to buy these separately. Alternatively, under the faceplate, the controller has a cool see-through design which can be a fun option too!

Lastly in this section of our GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C Mobile Gaming Controller Review, we need to mention the buttons. It features all those you would expect on a controller as well as a few extras such as a button for screen captures and another to bring you back to your mobile home screen. With this versatility, you will never feel like you need to use your phone’s touch screen while in the middle of a game. They also have a mechanical feedback feel so you really know you are pressing the buttons, a big plus in our book! In the box, you’ll also find 3 alternative thumbsticks that you can replace the already-fitted ones with. They vary in size, allowing you to select the one you find most comfortable.

Connectivity

We already touched on the rotating connection port in the previous section, but how does this actually work and what phones is the GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C actually compatible with? Well, the clue is in the name! Basically, any iOS or Android phone that uses Type-C USB for charging will work with the controller. Just simply download the GameSir App, slot your phone into place, and start playing your favorite games. We tried it with the iPhone 15, Redmagic 8 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S20+ with it working brilliantly on each. However, it is worth noting that the controller extends to a maximum width of 7.28 inches, so just ensure your phone doesn’t go beyond this.

In our opinion, this type of wired connection is absolutely vital for any serious mobile gamers. It ensures absolutely minimal latency issues that you may see with controllers that use a wireless connection such as Bluetooth. One common complaint about wired controllers is that they block the connection for your headset and obviously also your ability to charge your phone while you game. With the GameSir G8 Galileo Type-C, this is not the case with the controller having additional connection slots for both of these ensuring you won’t run out of juice or miss any enemy footsteps during a session.

Compatible Games

It can often be difficult to figure out what games are actually compatible with controllers, but typically you can expect that the biggest titles, such as Minecraft and Diablo Immortal, are very likely to be. However, for the avoidance of doubt, GameSir has compiled a list of all the games that you can use with their controllers right on their website, and with well over 300 games on that list, you should not be stuck with a lack of options! Alternatively, you can also check out the games available on the downloadable GameSir App.

In addition, if you want to expand it beyond simply mobile games, then you have an array of options to keep you satisfied. This includes compatibility with Xbox Remote Play, Steam Link, PS Remote Play, Luna, and Moonlight. Seriously, the possibilities of what to play on this controller are huge!
