Although PvP typically involves sending your Heroes and Troops out on Expeditions to defeat enemy cities, Arena allows you to test out your Best Exploration Heroes against other players. This is a great place to earn some nice daily and weekly rewards as well as the special Arena Token currency which can be spent in the Arena Shop on rare items. Keep reading this Whiteout Survival Arena Guide as we explore this game mode in more detail, letting you into the secrets of ranking well, revealing which items you should buy in the Arena Shop, and much more!

How Arena Works

Arena is an Exploration game mode that sees you pit 5 of your Best Exploration Heroes against those of another player. As with all Exploration game modes, you will have 2 Heroes in your frontline, typically acting as tanks, and 3 in your backline as the main damage dealers or supports. In addition, and as discussed in our Hero Guide, they are also assisted by their Escort Troops with the number of these increasing with the Heroes level.
In the early days of a new State, you will initially only face other players from your State, however, after about a month this will widen to include several other States, making it a little bit harder to rank further up the table. Each week represents a new Arena Season that resets every Monday with rewards paid out for both daily rankings and an overall ranking for the full Season. There are also rewards for each challenge you win. Keep reading this Whiteout Survival Hero Guide as we get into this in more detail in the next sections.
Challenges

Each day, players can challenge up to 5 other players for free. You can then buy up to an additional 5 challenges each day for [100/200/400/600/800] Gems per go. Any additional challenges you have bought for Gems cannot be saved for another day, so make sure to use them the day you buy them. Check out our Whiteout Survival Guide on How to Get Free Gems for more help in making sure you have enough to complete your maximum challenges in the Arena.
Points
At the start of a new Season, all players will have 1,000 points. These are then increased by challenging and defeating other players. You do not lose any points for losing a challenge, but losing will significantly impact your ability to rise through the ranks if you fail often. The only time you can lose points is when another player challenges you and you lose, therefore ensure you keep your Defensive Formation updated to reduce the chances of this happening.
The number of points you earn for defeating an opponent depends on their total number of Arena points. For defeating players with a higher number of points than you, you will earn 10, 11, or 12 points regardless of what their power is. Defeating players with a lower point total than yours will earn you 9 points.
Ranking
As mentioned in the previous sections of this Whiteout Survival Hero Guide, there are 2 tables concurrently running during an Arena Season. The first is a daily ranking with rewards paid out at server reset each day, and a Season Ranking, with rewards paid out at the end of each 7-day Season. Make sure you use at least all of your you free challenged every day to ensure you are in the daily rankings and moving up the Season rankings.
Hero Class

By far one of the most important things to consider when picking your Heroes is Hero Class. This is represented by the small icon on a Heroes profile, as shown in the image above. Heroes will be supported by a number of Troops that correspond to their class. The damage an escorting troop does to enemy troops is directly influenced by class as follows:
- Infantry – 10% extra damage against Lancers.
- Lancer – 10% extra damage against Marksman.
- Marksman – 10% extra damage against Infantry.
Skills
Like in other Exploration game modes, in the arena, a Hero’s Exploration Skills are active. Therefore, keep a close on these when deciding on which Heroes to deploy in your lineup. For the purposes of the Arena, Expedition Skills are meaningless. For more information on Skills and how to upgrade them, check out our detailed Whiteout Survival Hero Guide.
Best Formations

In the early game, it is likely you will just always use your Best Exploration Heroes for both defense and attack. However, as you progress, and have more Heroes, you can start to mix things up based on the defensive formation of the enemy. Nevertheless, below are some suggested formations for the early Generations. The first 2 names represent the frontline and the last 3 names the backline.
- Gen 1 F2P: Sergey, Jessie, Bahiti, Molly, Gina
- Gen 1 P2W: Jeronimo, Natalia, Molly, Bahiti, Zinman
- Gen 2 F2P: Flint, Sergey, Bahiti, Molly, Zinman
- Gen 2 P2W: Jeronimo, Natalia, Molly, Alonso, Philly
We consider Zinman F2P friendly from the end of Gen 1 as he can obtained from the Lucky Wheel using Gems. Likewise, if you have been saving your Gems, you can get Flint right at the start of Gen 2 from the Lucky Wheel. Check out our list of the Best Whiteout Survival F2P Heroes for more help with this idea.
Rewards

There are 3 different places to earn rewards in the Whiteout Survival Arena: Daily Ranking, Season Ranking, and winning Challenges. Daily Rankings offer Gem and Arena Tokens to all players who participated, Season Rankings again offer Gem and Arena Tokens but also see the top ranking players get Skill Manuals and Mythic General Hero Shards, and, for winning a challenge, you can gain Hero EXP, Shards, and Hero Gear.
What to Buy in the Arena Shop
As mentioned in our Tips for Beginners, it is usually recommended to only ever spend your Arena Tokens on the Custom Mythic Hero Gear Chest. Although it can take a while to save up enough Tokens to afford it, this is a huge upgrade on all lower-tier Gear and is the easiest place to get Mythic Gear. It also allows you to pick exactly which Gear you want.
| Item | Arena Tokens |
|---|---|
| 1x Custom Mythic Hero Gear Chest | 12,000 |
| 1x Custom Epic Hero Gear Chest | 3,750 |
| 1x Essence Stones | 2,500 |
| 1x Zinman Shard | 2,000 |
| 1x Mythic General Hero Shard | 2,500 |
| 1x Rare Exploration Manual | 150 |
| 1x Mythic Expedition Skill Manual | 1,000 |
| 1x Epic Expedition Skill Manual | 500 |
| 1x Rare Expedition Skill Manual | 150 |
| 1x 5k Hero EXP | 150 |
Tips for Winning

Now that we are at the end of this Whiteout Survival Arena Guide, and you should have a good idea of exactly how this game mode works and what rewards are available, let’s dive into some specific strategies you can employ to help you rank well. Although some of these may only be available to players who are spending money, most of them can be used by even F2P players!
- Examine closely the power and Arena Points in the list of your potential opponents for each challenge. Aim to attack those who have many more points than you but have a power level you think you can beat. This will ensure you get maximum points with each challenge.
- When a new Arena Season starts, no one is able to challenge you until you have made your first attack. Take advantage of this and only use your challenges as late as possible. This reduces the likelihood that someone will challenge you thereby reducing the chance that you will lose points from losing a defense. Unfortunately, this only works on the first day of a new Season.
- Do not challenge your own Alliance. This will just help other players rank above your own Alliance and will also just annoy your allies.
- Max out your paid and free challenges every day for a total of 10 daily challenges. If you win all of these then you are well on your way to ranking in the top spots. However, this will cost a total of 14.7k Gems for a full week with maxed-out challenges. Check out our Whiteout Survival Guide on How to Get Gems for help with ensuring you have enough to do this. Please note, however, that this is really only a recommended tactic for players who are spending money on the game, there are better uses for F2P players.
- If you are waiting till the very end of the first day before using your challenges, use speed matches to complete the challenges as fast as possible. Once the battle has begun, simply click pause and then retreat. This will instantly finish the match and tell you who won.
- Ensure your Heroes are optimized with the best Gear, Level, and Skills. There is no use in picking one of the Heroes in our list of the Best Arena Formations if they have not been worked on at all, they will be far too underpowered.
- Check a player’s defensive lineup by selecting their profile picture on the challenge screen and then the small magnifying glass as shown in the image at the top of this section. When examining this, remember to consider the strengths and weaknesses of the different Classes. If they are heavy on 1 class type, tilt your formation more to one that counters this.
- Make use of your 5 free refreshes every day if you need them. After this, it then starts to cost Gems at 5 Gems for the first refresh and then slowly increases with each refresh. The idea here is to keep refreshing until you find opponents with a higher number of points but lower Hero Power.
