Whiteout Survival Bear Hunt Guide: Max Your Damage

The Bear Hunt is one of the first events you will encounter in Whiteout Survival, but, regardless of its early appearance, it will remain a staple of your schedule for as long as you play the game. Indeed, as mentioned in our Tips for Beginners, it is an absolute cash cow for resources, Alliance Tokens, and Gear upgrade materials such as Essence Stone. With such bountiful rewards on offer, it is important to understand exactly how this event works. Keep reading this Whiteout Survival Bear Hunt Guide as we explore in more detail the best heroes to use, specific rally strategies, and more, that will help you do as much damage against the Bear to maximize your rewards!

The Basics

Whiteout Survival Bear Hunt

Bear Hunt is an Alliance event that sees all members team up and join rallies against an incredibly strong bear to deal as much damage as possible. Thankfully, however, the Bear does not deal any damage to players so you do not need to worry about healing Troops as you would in PvP or when hunting regular Beasts and Polar Terrors. As an Expedition game mode, Heroes use their Expedition Skills during combat. The event is started by an R4 or R5 and when initiated players will have 30 minutes to deal their damage. Following the conclusion of the event, rewards are paid out based on the amount of damage done and there is a 48-hour cooldown period before the event can be started again.

Placing the Bear Trap

The Bear Trap is placed by Alliance leadership and is where the Bear will spawn once the event is activated. Players will then proceed to rally this location with the Bear staying there until the 30-minute time limit is up. As such, good placement of the Bear Trap is crucial for an alliance to deal good damage. Indeed, with potentially 100 players in an Alliance, putting it in a bad location could mean players are too far away with long marches meaning they can only participate in a few rallies during the 30 minutes.

Alliance leaders must look carefully at the map before deciding on where to place it. Ideally, you want as few obstacles as possible, allowing everyone to Teleport close to it. For example, you wouldn’t want to place it near any resource Alliance Buildings, such as Woodmills and Farms, as they would take up the potential spot of a player’s city. Additionally, placing it near the border of your alliance territory should be avoided. This will force players to Teleport outside your Territory, thereby missing out on territory buffs, and may even prevent them from getting close if you border the territory of another alliance.

Please note that 2 Traps can be placed. However, they cannot be run at the same time or at an overlapping time. Both traps operate independently with seperate cooldowns, enhancement levels, and damage rankings. This is a great feature to make use of as it allows alliances with players across timezones to ensure everyone gets a chance at competing in the event.

Trap Enhancement

Whiteout Survival Bear Hunt Trap Enhancement

Before the event is started, players can use Explosive Arrowhead items to enhance the trap. The trap can be enhanced up to level 5 via this method with each level granting an attack buff against the Bear. Therefore, everyone should use any Explosive Arrowheads they have to make sure the trap gets up to its maximum level. The total number of Explosive Arrowheads required for each level of enhancement and the associated attack buff are shown in the table below:

LevelExplosive ArrowheadsAttack Buff
12005%
230010%
340015%
450020%
550025%

In addition to gaining attack buffs for the entire Alliance, donating Explosive Arrowheads also gives the donator a decent number of Alliance Tokens in return at 200 Alliance Tokens per 1 Explosive Arrowhead. You can continue to donate them even after the trap is enhanced to its maximum level to keep earning Alliance Tokens at the same rate. Explosive Arrowheads are found by completing Intel Missions.

Calling Rallies

While any player can initiate a rally, it’s typically the role of players with the strongest Heroes and highest rally capacity. As a rally leader, you have a unique advantage: all three Heroes you select will contribute all of their Expedition Skills to the rally buffs. This can mean up to nine Expedition Skills (when using Mythic Heroes), allowing you to maximize buffs that impact rally damage.

Whiteout Survival Rally Captain

To optimize your rally, focus on Heroes with skills that specifically boost Troop attack and lethality, as these directly enhance your damage output. Since the Bear doesn’t deal any damage, skills that increase Defense and HP are unnecessary in this event. Prioritizing attack and lethality-focused Heroes will ensure the highest possible damage contribution from your rally that all joiners can benefit from.

How to Deal Maximum Damage as a Rally Leader

Aside from using your Best Attack Expedition Heroes, there are several other things you can do to maximize your rally buffs as covered in the list below:

  • Use Your Best Heroes – as mentioned above, aim to use Mythic Heroes with upgraded Expedition Skills that buff Troop attack and lethality.
  • Increase Your VIP – for example, at VIP 10 you gain a +12% Troop Attack buff.
  • Research – improve your research on the Battle tech tree. In particular, focus on those technologies that buff attack and lethality.
  • Equip Your Best Gear – ensure all your Heroes have the best Gear equipped. For example, this should all be Mythic (buy this in the Arena Shop as a F2P player) and upgraded as far as possible for maximum buffs. Like research, prioritize Gear that buffs Troop lethality and attack.
  • Chief Gear – make sure this is upgraded.
  • Chief Charm – likewise, don’t neglect this, it adds significant buffs.
  • Daybreak Island – this is often forgotten about but also can grant huge attack and lethality buffs to your Troops. Look for buildings that buff these stats and build and upgrade them.
  • Pets – although these are expensive to upgrade, they do grant significant buffs to attack and lethality so should not be forgotten about.

Bear Hunt Best Rally Leader Heroes

Whiteout Survival Jeronimo

When selecting Rally Leaders, you are looking for those with Expedition Skills that predominantly buff Troop attack and lethality. Try to avoid those with skills that stun, reduce stamina costs, etc. Therefore, it is not quite as simple as things are for the Best Exploration Heroes, where often the newest Generation is the best. Indeed, we consider the below the Best Rally Leader Heroes for Bear Hunt in Whiteout Survival.

GenerationHeroes
Gen 1 F2PMolly, Bahiti, and Sergey

Gen 8 F2PMia, Bradley, and Hector
Gen 8 P2WMia, Bradley, and Jeronimo
Gen 9 F2PMia, Bradley, and Hector
Gen 9 P2WMia, Bradley, and Jeronimo

*Please note, we consider Zinman F2P friendly towards the end of Generation 1 as he is available from that generation’s Lucky Wheel. Some would continue to advise continuing to use Bahiti, however, we believe Zinman has an edge due to his skills not including any RNG meaning more consistent damage.

Joining Rallies

Whiteout Survival Lead Rally Hero

Maximizing your total damage during the Bear Hunt event requires not only leading rallies but also joining others. Understanding how to increase rally buffs as a joiner is essential for contributing effectively. In all Expedition game modes, including PvP, the first four players to join a rally contribute their lead Hero’s 1st Expedition Skill to the rally’s overall buff. Your lead Hero is simply the first Hero you select when joining a rally, as shown in the image above.

How Rally Joiner Buffs Work

Rally joiner buffs operate on a dynamic system. If a later player joins with a lead Hero whose 1st Expedition Skill is at a higher level than one of the initial four joiners, their skill will replace the lower-level one already included in the rally buff. To maximize the rally’s effectiveness, prioritize Heroes with Expedition Skills that enhance Troop lethality or attack, as these have the greatest impact. For example, Gina’s stamina reduction skill is irrelevant for the Bear Hunt but could still be included if she’s one of the first joiners with a high-level skill.

Rally Buffs and Hero Damage

It’s important to note that Heroes themselves do not deal damage to the Bear. Their primary role is to boost Troop performance through their buffs. Even if your Hero’s Expedition Skill isn’t included in the rally buffs, your Troops still benefit from the skills contributed by the rally leader and the first four joiners. This makes it crucial to ensure that the contributing Expedition Skills are effective. Rally leaders should monitor initial joiners closely and replace those with low-impact Expedition Skills to include more beneficial buffs in the rally.

Monitoring the Rally Bonus

To view which Heroes are boosting the rally, select the rally and click on the small flag icon above the list of participating squads. This screen will display the Rally Bonus and its sources. Scroll to the bottom to see the current lead Heroes from rally joiners contributing to the buffs. Rally leaders should monitor this closely and remove any marches with irrelevant Expedition Skills.

How to Deal Maximum Damage as a Rally Joiner

Rally joiners can’t do quite as much as the rally leader to increase their damage, but there are still a few things as covered in the list below:

  • Maximize Your March Size – with a bigger March Size you can send more Troops. The first way to increase this, as discussed in our Hero Guide, is by maximizing the level of the Heroes you are sending to the rally. It can also be increased via research and by upgrading the Command Center building.
  • Choose the Right Lead Hero – ensure your lead Hero has a relevant first Expedition Skill for the Bear Hunt. Also, make sure it is upgraded to its maximum level so that the buff it grants is as high as possible and has a good chance of being included.
  • Send Your Best Troops – only send the highest-level Troops that you have as these will deal the most damage. Additionally, focus on upgrading the relevant buildings as a priority so that you can start building higher level Troops sooner.

Best Rally Joining Heroes

As a rally joiner, there are specific Heroes that you should use as your lead Hero based on their first Expedition Skill. In particular, these are the Skills that buff Troop Lethality and Attack. From best to worst, the below lists the most viable Heroes for this role:

  • S Tier – Reina [Gen 4]
  • A TierJessie [Gen 1], Jasser [Gen 1], Seo-yoon [Gen 1], Jeronimo [Gen 1], Gwen [Gen 5], Bradley [Gen 7], and Magnus [Gen 9]
  • B Tier – Sonya [Gen 8]

Alliance

In addition to Personal Rewards, there are also rewards on offer for the total damage done by the Alliance. At the start of a new State, these rewards will include Alliance Tokens and Sergey Shards. Once the State enters the Fire Crystal Age, after about 2 months, the Sergey Shard rewards will be replaced with Essence Stones which can be used for upgrading Gear.

Tips for More Damage

Finally, in this Whiteout Survival Bear Hunt Guide, let’s cover some quick tips you can start implementing today to see your personal and Alliance damage increase significantly:

  • As the Rally Leader, keep a close eye on all Squads that join your march. Kick anyone who is joining with low-tier Troops or lead Heroes with the wrong first Expedition Skill. Likewise, as a Rally Joiner, ensure you are not making these mistakes.
  • If you are part of Alliance leadership, organize a strict formation around the Bear Trap for your members. You want your main Rally Leaders to be as close as possible so that they have as short a march time as possible and can call more rallies in the 30 minutes.
  • Likewise, try to ensure your members are calling rallies that are spaced apart. Ideally, after the first wave of rallies, you will have at least 1 hitting the Bear every 30 seconds or so. This allows players to join more rallies by sending Troops out again immediately upon return.
  • Try to send more Marksman than any other Troop if you have enough. The Bear deals no damage so you don’t need to worry about including Infantry, for example, to soak up damage for your backline. Marskmen deal more damage than any other Troop, and therefore, with more of these, you will deal more damage than with an equalized march.
  • As suggested in our Tips for Beginners and PvP Tips, Save some Squads before the event begins. This can be done by selecting your profile picture, then the Troops button, and finally the Squads button. By setting Squads for both Calling and Joining Rallies, you are less likely to make a mistake with the Troops and Heroes you send. Indeed, it is often quite rushed in the Bear Hunt to get into rallies, and when doing everything manually it is not unusual to go wrong somewhere.
  • As a Rally Joiner, remember that it is only the first Hero in your squad that matters for the rally buffs. As such, for the next 2 Heroes, simply select those that are the highest level to increase the maximum number of Troops that you can send. More Troops = more damage.
