In Whiteout Survival, Daybreak Island offers players a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity by designing beautiful decorations on a distinctive map. But it’s not just about aesthetics, these decorations provide significant buffs when built and upgraded. Additionally, there are excellent rewards to be earned by reaching Tree of Life level milestones. In this Whiteout Survival Daybreak Island Guide, we’ll explore how this feature works and share tips to help you maximize its benefits.

When is Daybreak Island Unlocked?

Upon upgrading your Furnace to level 19, you’ll unlock a new building in your city: the Dock. This structure allows you to send your survivors out to explore the oceans in search of more habitable lands. After approximately three days, they will discover Daybreak Island, a location noticeably warmer than any you’ve encountered since the world froze over. At the heart of Daybreak Island lies the Tree of Life, adorned with lush foliage, symbolizing hope for a brighter future. With this discovery, you unlock access to Daybreak Island, where you can begin constructing decorations and earning valuable buffs.
The Map
When you first unlock Daybreak Island in Whiteout Survival, the island will be mostly untouched, with the Tree of Life at its center surrounded by a dense forest. Your initial task will be to clear the area to make room for building. To accomplish this, you’ll construct two Lumber Camps, where Survivors will work to chop down trees and clear the land.

As trees are removed, there’s also a chance to uncover chests containing valuable rewards such as Life Essence (the primary material for constructing decorations), Hero Shards, Gear, and more. The Lumber Camps can be upgraded to level 10 using Life Essence, with each upgrade increasing the efficiency of tree clearing. For every 720 units of wood collected, you’ll earn 1 Life Essence. Below is the rate at which wood is cleared at each level and the requirements to upgrade the building:
| Level | Workers | Rate/s | Tree of Life | Life Essence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1 | 6 | 1 | 0 |
| 2 | 1 | 7 | 1 | 100 |
| 3 | 1 | 8 | 2 | 400 |
| 4 | 2 | 9 | 2 | 600 |
| 5 | 2 | 10 | 4 | 1K |
| 6 | 2 | 11 | 4 | 1.6K |
| 7 | 2 | 12 | 5 | 2.1K |
| 8 | 2 | 13 | 5 | 3K |
| 9 | 2 | 14 | 6 | 4K |
| 10 | 2 | 15 | 6 | 5K |
Once you have cleared all the trees from the map you will unlock the Timbermill building. At this point, Lumber Camps cease to produce Life Essence with the Timbermill now doing this instead with all workers from the Lumber Camps going to work here instead. The Timbermill produces 40 Life Essence an hour per worker with a capacity of 2,000.
Tree of Life
The Tree of Life serves as the centerpiece of Daybreak Island in Whiteout Survival. Like the Lumber Camps, it can be upgraded to level 10, but its upgrades come with additional benefits. Not only does it generate a significant amount of Life Essence passively at higher levels, but upgrading the Tree of Life also provides powerful buffs to your account.
To upgrade the Tree of Life, you’ll need substantial amounts of Life Essence as well as a specific Prosperity score. Prosperity is increased by constructing decorations, with more exclusive decorations contributing higher Prosperity points. When viewing your Island, your current Prosperity score is displayed in the top-left corner. Please refer to the table below for full details on the key requirements for upgrading the Tree of Life, as well as the buffs associated with each level.
| Level | Prosperity | Life Essence | Rate | Buff |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 0 | 120 | Healing Speed +30% |
| 2 | 150 | 500 | 150 | Troops Deployment Capacity +1K |
| 3 | 600 | 1K | 180 | Healing Speed +30% |
| 4 | 1.2K | 5K | 210 | Troops Defense +5% |
| 5 | 2.4K | 10K | 240 | Healing Speed +30% |
| 6 | 4K | 20K | 270 | Troops Attack +5% |
| 7 | 7K | 30K | 300 | Healing Speed +30% |
| 8 | 10K | 50K | 330 | Troops Deployment Capacity +3K |
| 9 | 15K | 70K | 360 | Troops Health +5% |
| 10 | 20K | 100K | 390 | Troops Lethality +5% |
Please note that the “Rate” column above indicates the amount of Life Essence generated per hour by the Tree of Life at each corresponding level. Additionally, Prosperity is not consumed during an upgrade and will continue to accumulate as you build more decorations. However, Life Essence is consumed during upgrades and building, so you’ll need to collect more each time you use it to continue progressing.
Decorations

Whilst the buffs from the Tree of Life are pretty great, Decorations are where it’s at to truly express your creative juices and accumulate massive buffs. However, these do not come free, and depending on the type of decoration will cost you Gems, Resources, or Life Essence. The decorations that cost Gems and Resources or are purely decorative whilst those that cost Life Essence will largely add buffs. Let’s cover this all in more detail in the following sections.
Basic
Basic Decorations are purely aesthetic and require Gems or Resources to build. They cannot be leveled up and do not provide any buffs. Below is a table outlining each Basic Decoration, its cost, and the maximum number you can place.
| Decoration | Cost | Limit |

| Heated Pool | 200 Gems | 500 |
| Streetlight | 1K Wood | 200 |

Higher rarity Decorations cost more Life Essence to build but offer better buffs and have a higher level cap. To upgrade a Decoration, you need to purchase duplicate versions of the same type and merge them together to create a higher-level version. Starry Lighthouse

Upon reaching Tree of Life level 10, you will gain the ability to purchase a blueprint for the Starry Lighthouse for 50,000 Life Essence. Once acquired, this unique Decoration will automatically be placed on the coastline of your Daybreak Island in Whiteout Survival. Similar to Mythic Decorations, the Starry Lighthouse can be upgraded to level 10. At its maximum level, it provides the following buffs and Prosperity:
- Troops Lethality +10%
- Troops Health +10%
- 20,000 Prosperity.
However, unlike other Decorations, upgrading the Starry Lighthouse comes with a significant additional cost: General Accessory Construction Contracts. As a F2P player, you can obtain one for free each week and win them as rewards from events like State of Power and King of Icefield. These are then used to buy blueprints at a cost of 10 General Accessory Construction Contracts for 1 Blueprint. The total cost in terms of Contracts and Blueprints for each level is as follows:
| Level | Contracts | Blueprints |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0 | 1 |
| 2 | 20 | 2 |
| 3 | 40 | 4 |
| 4 | 60 | 6 |
| 5 | 80 | 8 |
| 6 | 100 | 10 |

| 8 | 140 | 14 |
| 9 | 160 | 16 |
| 10 | 180 | 18 |
Tips for Fast Upgrading
- There is a limit to how much Life Essence your Tree of Life and Lumber Camps can accumulate and you must collect it to allow it to commence accumulating again. Make sure you are doing this regularly or you will severely limit your progress.
- Prioritize upgrading your Tree of Life and Lumber Camps, and resist the temptation to focus too much on decorating. Only build decorations until you reach the Prosperity requirements for the next Tree of Life upgrade, and then save your Life Essence for that upgrade. The higher your Tree of Life and Lumber Camps are, the more Life Essence you will accumulate each hour.
- Each day you can visit up to 3 Allies and help them with their Island. This rewards you with a small amount of Life Essence which stacks nicely over time. In addition, try to encourage others to visit your Island as you will also receive a Life Essence reward for this too.
- Move your Lumber Camps closer to the tree line. Whilst Survivors have a rate that they clear at, they must return to the Lumber Camps periodically to drop off their load. During this period, they are not cutting down trees, so, anything you can do to shorten that trip will be a huge help.
- Carefully examine the Decorations you are building and pick those with the buffs you think you will benefit from most. In addition, make sure you are not placing duplicates of Decorations which have a limit of 1, meaning you only get the buff from them once, regardless of how many you have placed.
- Focus on building level 1 of Rare, Epic, Mythic Decorations first. This offers the best bang for your buck in terms of Prosperity gain versus Life Essence cost. Mythic Decorations in particular offer the best return. After you have reached Tree of Life level 10 you can focus more on upgrades.
