Whiteout Survival Exploration Guide and Best Formations

As mentioned in our Hero Guide, Exploration is one of the best places to accumulate Hero EXP, Steel, and Gear fodder. The further you go in Exploration, the greater the AKF rewards you will receive from it will be. However, New Players often find their progress here quickly grinds to a halt, hindering their ability to improve their Heroes. In this Whiteout Survival Exploration Guide, we help you understand exactly how this game mode works and provide specific strategies and the best formations you can use to progress. Keep reading as we reveal all.

Overview

Whiteout Survival Exploration Guide and Best Formations

As touched on in the introduction of this Whiteout Survival Exploration Guide, this game mode is key to ensuring you are accumulating plenty of Hero EXP, Steel, and Gear to improve your Heroes. Much like Arena, it sees you setting a formation of 5 Heroes to do battle, but in this case, you do battle against stages of progressively more difficult NPC opponents. Your lineup will consist of a frontline containing 2 Heroes and a backline containing 3 Heroes. Typically, you will send your tankier Heroes to the frontline, like Sergey, to soak up damage, while your main attackers will be left on the backline to rain down the damage on the enemy.

Stages

Whiteout Survival Exploration

The central idea of Exploration is to progress through stages of progressively more difficult NPC opponents. Depending on the stage you are on, you will earn a certain amount of Gear, Steel, and Hero EXP while you are AFK. AFK rewards max out after 9 hours, so you need to keep coming back before this happens to ensure rewards are continuously accumulating and not getting blocked up. In addition to this, you also gain rewards for clearing stages with every 5th Stage representing a powerful boss stage with greater clear rewards such as Hero Shards and Skill Manuals.

As mentioned in our Tips for Beginners, getting to Stage 200 should be a priority for all players. At this point, you start to gain Gear as well as Hero EXP. It will mostly be low-tier Gear, but this makes great fodder and will transform your ability to upgrade your Hero Gear. There is also a leaderboard for your State that shows how far you have progressed in Exploration versus the other players in your State. Unfortunately, however, there are no rewards for ranking well here.

Exploration Skills

Whiteout Survival Gina Skills

As discussed in our Whiteout Survival Hero Guide, Heroes have 2 types of Skills: Exploration and Expedition. As should be obvious from the name, like Arena, the only Skills we care about for this game mode are the Exploration Skills. Any Heroes you select to take part in Exploration should have these upgraded as far as you can. These make a huge difference on the battlefield and, depending on the Hero, you will want to focus more on different ones. For help with this, check out our individual Hero Guides which can be navigated to from our Hero List.

Class and Escorts

As explored in our Whiteout Survival Hero Guide, each Hero has a Class that is directly linked to their Escorts. Escorts are Troops that accompany a Hero during Exploration and Arena battles and they can play a big role in the outcome of a battle. The number of Escorts a Hero has increases with their level and you should therefore ensure you get your Heroes to as high a level as possible for maximum support from their Escorts. In addition, each Class has a certain buff over other Troop Types which can also see you overcoming difficult odds:

  • Infantry – 10% extra damage against Lancers.
  • Lancer – 10% extra damage against Marksman.
  • Marksman – 10% extra damage against Infantry.

Best Formations

When starting a new Exploration battle in Whiteout Survival, you can select Quick Deploy to have the game automatically pick your 5 best Heroes in terms of raw power. However, this is not always the best way to go. Firstly, you should try to focus on some of the Best Exploration Heroes, these are the Heroes who perform best in this game mode. In addition, you need to examine the lineup of the opposing NPC army and adjust your lineup accordingly. In particular, you want to tilt your formations toward Classes that counter the Class of the opposing team’s Heroes as covered in the previous section.

Nevertheless, especially in the early game, there are some reliable formations that can be considered the best for Exploration in Whiteout Survival. These formations typically revolve around the Best Arena Formations and as such have a similar structure with 2 tanks in the frontline and 3 damage dealers/supports in the backline. The Best Formations for Whiteout Survival Exploration are as follows with the first 2 names being the frontline and the last 3 names being the backline:

As mentioned in our list of the Best Heroes for F2P Heroes in Whiteout Survival, you should focus on getting each Generation’s new Lucky Wheel Hero. Indeed, all your Gems should go towards getting these Heroes up to Star Level 4 via this method. You can then adjust your F2P lineups above to add these Heroes in. For example, in Generation 3 Mia is the Lucky Wheel Hero and she can be used to replace Bahiti in the Gen 2 F2P Best Whiteout Survival Exploration Formation. For players who are spending money, things are a bit easier, you will probably get all Heroes from each Generation and these can be slotted in to replace the oldest Heroes in your Formation.
