Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Guide

The Fishing Tournament in Whiteout Survival is a hugely popular event that sees players flexing their fishing skills in a race to accumulate as many points as possible from rare catches. For those who participate, there are many rewards on offer such as Gems, Skins, Fire Crystals, and more. In this Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Guide, we explore exactly how this event works, what rewards you can win, and provide some tips on how you can perform better.

Fishing

Whiteout Survival Fishing

Fishing is obviously the core of this game with what you catch determining the number of points and tokens you earn. These are used to determine your overall ranking and purchase better fishing items. You can fish in two locations as will be covered in the next 2 sections of this Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Guide.

Ice Fishing

Ice Fishing is the basic form of fishing that you can do during the Fishing Tournament. Here, you are limited on how deep you can go and how many fish you can catch by your items which will be covered in a later section of this Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Guide. In addition, during Ice Fishing, you are less likely to find rare fish versus the other types of fishing that can be done. To do Ice Fishing, you must have bait, with each time you cast costing 1 bait. You can hold up to a maximum of 10 bait at a time with it replenishing by 1 every 3 hours after it falls below this number.

Frosty Prospector

Frosty Prospector fishing requires a special item called the Treasure Chart. During this fishing, you are much more likely to encounter rare fish and are not limited to how deep or how many fish you can catch by your items. Instead, each time you fish here, you can go to a depth of 550m and catch up to 20 fish per cast.

Protection, Haul Limit, and Depth

Fishing in Whiteout Survival

When fishing, your hook will initially just sink deeper and deeper into the ocean. This will continue until you bump into a certain number of fish. When fishing, this protection is 2 but can be increased to 4 by using the Reel Stabilizer item. Once you have exceeded this protection, you will begin to reel your hook in, with any further fish bumped into being caught on your hook up to your maximum haul limit. There is also a maximum depth that your line can go to, once reached, you will start to reel in and catch fish. The deeper you go, the more likely you are to encounter rare fish.

Each day that the Fishing Tournament is running, there are some missions you can complete for extra rewards. In particular, these are Fishing Points milestone rewards as follows:

Kit

Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Kit

Your kit during the Fishing Tournament has a huge impact on how well you perform each time you fish. There are 3 pieces of kit at your disposal with each doing a slightly different thing. The 3 pieces of kit are as follows:

  1. Line – boosts maximum line depth, 550m at max.
  2. Hook – boosts the maximum size of haul, 20 at max.
  3. Sinker – boosts hook starting depth, 165m at max.

In addition to the above, each level will cost the following amount of Fishing Tokens to upgrade:

2100
3100
4100
5150
6150
7150
8200

Items

In addition to your kit, you can use disposable items to further boost your performance. There are 5 of these that can be used with each one obtainable through the Fishing Pro Set pack, the Ice Fishing Club, and in some cases for Gems. These items are as follows:

  1. Lantern – past 300m, the ocean starts to get dark. The lantern lights your way, enabling you to see obstacles. This can be bought for 300 Gems.
  2. Ocean Scanner – tells you how far away any nearby rare fish are. This can be bought for 300 Gems.
  3. Reel Stabilizer – normally you can only knock into 2 obstacles before your line will automatically start to reel in, the Reel Stabilizer increases this by another 2. This can be bought for 300 Gems.
  4. Horn of Poseidon – allows you to select a rare fish that is guaranteed to appear next time you take part in Ice Fishing.
  5. Icefisher Voucher – can be used at the end of a fishing activity to grant you a 1.5x bonus for the round.

Fish

The whole point of the Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament is to catch as many fish as possible to earn points. However, aside from fish, you can also catch divers, treasure chests, and items! Each one of these you catch will grant you with a certain number of Fishing Tokens and Fishing Points based on their rarity, as well as some Gems the first time you ever catch them in the game:

StarsGemsTokensPoints
1101010
2202020
3404040
4707070
5150150150

In addition to the above, there are also chest rewards available for the number of unique fish you have caught. Indeed, with each new fish caught you gain a certain number of stars which is in turn counted towards a total based on the rarity of the fish caught. At certain milestones, you are granted rewards such as Gems, Design Plans, Gear Enhancement Components, and more. Progress towards these milestones is saved between iterations of the event with duplicate fish caught across events not counting towards the total.

Collections

Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Collection Skin

As mentioned in the previous section of this Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Guide, 4 different types of things can be caught during the event: Fish, Divers, Chests, and Items. Each of these forms a collection that if completed rewards the player with a special permanent skin:

CollectionNumberSkinBuff
Fish150Treasure Stronghold – City SkinTroops Attack +2%
Diver10Ice Journey – March SkinHunting March Speed +5%
Chests10Master of the Seas – NameplateN/A

Seasons

The Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament event operates on a seasonal basis with there being 4 seasons in total: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. These are cycled through in order with each iteration of the event. It is important to note that each fish, chest, diver, and item, can only be caught in specific seasons. Therefore, you will have to wait until you have played all 4 seasons before you even have a chance of completing a collection. Progress towards collections is saved with each iteration of the event. In addition, you only gain the first catch Gem rewards once for each fish regardless of if you caught it in a previous iteration of the event.

Rewards

Like all Whiteout Survival Events, the rewards are really what everyone is after and, thankfully, the Fishing Tournament does not disappoint. Aside from the collection and mission milestones rewards available, there are 3 further key areas where you can win some valuable items.

Sunken Treasure Hunt

Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Sunken Treasure

Once you have maxed out all your items to level 10, you can use any further Fishing Tokens you earn on the Sunken Treasure Hunt. This is essentially a lucky wheel that costs 1,500 Fishing Tokens per spin. There are Mythic Hero General Shards, Fishing Items, Essence Stones, Resources, Hero EXP, Mythic Skill Manuals, and Speedups available to be won.

Ice Fishing Club

The Ice Fishing Club grants you with rewards for accumulating Fishing Points. With every 500 Fishing Points you earn, you will progress a level with each level offering three tracks of rewards. The basic level is free but still includes some useful things such as Treasure Charts and Shards. The next 2 tracks are the Pro and the Master which both cost money but offer even more rewards.

Leaderboard Rewards

Whiteout Survival Fishing Tournament Ranking Skin

Based on the total number of Fishing Points you earn during the event, you will be ranked against all other players in your state with the top 500 players all getting rewards. At its basic, this includes all the usual stuff such as Gems and Speedups. However, for those in the top 50 there are also some great 30-day skins available:

RankSkin
1 – 6Dream of Atlantis City Skin – Troops Attack +2%
Song of Ocean Avatar Frame – Troops Defense +2%
Whale Waves March Skin – Hunting March Speed +5%

Tips for Winning

  • Stick to the edges, in our experience, you encounter fewer fish here which will help you go deeper for the rarer fish.
  • Don’t worry about going over the tails of fish, this does not seem to count as an obstacle therefore leaving your protection intact.
  • When using the Horn of Poseidon, make sure the fish you are selecting is not deeper than your current max depth.
  • Save your items for Frosty Prospector fishing as this activity offers rarer fishing, giving you a better bang for your buck.
  • When upgrading your items, first focus on your Hook to maximize your haul with each cast. After this go for the Line and finally the Sinker. We find the Sinker offers the least value as it is relatively easy to get deep anyway by sticking to the edges.
  • If you want rank for the skins then you are ultimately going to need to buy one of the Ice Fishing Club upgrades as these offer a bonus to all Fishing Points and Fishing Tokens gained.
  • When fishing, if you are not happy with how you are progressing, you can retreat and start over without having used any of your bait or items. To do this, simply select the pause button and then retreat.
