Whiteout Survival Gathering Guide (Speed, Best Heroes, Tips)

Gathering in Whiteout Survival is crucial for progressing your account with the cost of Troops and Buildings increasing exponentially. As such, understanding exactly how it works and what you can do to improve your gathering is vital to ensure you are not falling behind other players in your State. In this Whiteout Survival Guide, we explore in detail several things you can do to improve your Gathering, such as which Heroes are best in this activity, how to increase your gathering speed of resources, and much more.

Resources

Whiteout Survival Resource Spots

In Whiteout Survival, there are four essential resources you’ll need to gather: Meat, Wood, Coal, and Iron. Each resource plays a critical role, and you’ll find that the demand for them grows as you progress, with building upgrades and Troop Training becoming more costly at each level. You may notice that Wood and Meat are required in larger quantities than other resources, especially for construction and training. However, it’s not necessary to prioritize them over Coal and Iron, as each resource has a specific ratio. Typically, buildings and training require equal amounts of Meat and Wood, along with about 20% of that amount in Coal, and only 5% in Iron. This is also reflected in the amount of resources that are produced by your resource buildings and the amount of the corresponding resources available at Resource Spots.

Resource Spots

While you can produce resources inside your city via their corresponding buildings, you’ll also need to gather from Resource Spots to really have enough to make your account powerful. Resource Sports range in level with higher levels containing more resources. However, on first starting a new State, you will only have access to low-level Resource Spots with the level available slowly increasing as your State ages. The resource levels and their corresponding available amount of resources are as follows:

Troop Load

Whiteout Survival Troop Load

When sending your Troops out to gather resources in Whiteout Survival, an important thing to consider is Troop Load. This is what influences exactly how many resources each Troop can carry back with them to the city after gathering. Troop Load increases with their level and is equal for the different Troop Types. Therefore, a level 5 Lancer can carry the same amount as a level 5 Marksman but more than a level 4 Marksman. You can check Troop Load for each Troop by selecting the list icon when training as shown in the image above.

However, one quirk to mention here is that this load is only how much Meat and Wood they can carry. For Coal and Iron, it is 20% and 5% of this value respectively. This follows the ratios highlighted at the start of this Whiteout Survival Gathering Guide. Ideally, you want as few Troops as possible going to a Resource Spot to clear it out. This means that fewer Troops will die if you are attacked, however, typically this is prohibited outside the State of Power and Brothers in Arms events. Troop Load is not influenced by the Heroes you send.

Hero Class and Expedition Skills

When sending out your Troops to gather at Resource Spots, you can also send out up to 3 Heroes to join them. Ultimately, this determines your total max March Size with each Hero adding a certain capacity based on their level as covered in our Hero Guide. Ideally, you will only be going to Resource Spots you can clean out, therefore having a big enough March Size is important especially when heading to the higher-level spots.

Aside from this, however, it is also important to consider a Heroes Class and Expedition Skills when choosing which Heroes to accompany the march. In particular, you will be looking to send Growth Heroes who have Expedition Skills that improve the efficiency of gathering. As things stand, and as will be covered in the next section, there are just a few Heroes who fill this role, making the decision of who to send quite easy.

Best Gathering Heroes

Whiteout Survival Hero - Smith

As touched on in the previous section of this Whiteout Survival Gathering Guide, there are only a few Heroes with Expedition Skills that improve gathering. These Heroes, alongside their respective gathering skills, are as follows:

HeroExpedition Skill
CharlieCoal Extraction: Charlie is an old hand at coal mining. + [5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%] Coal Gathering Speed on the map.
ClorisPredator: Cloris knows the ecosystem like the back of her hand. + [5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%] Meat Gathering Speed on the map.
EugeneMaster Woodcutter: Eugene is always focused on achieving the perfect logging technique. + [5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%] Wood Gathering Speed on the map.
SmithCraftsmanship: Smith has an extraordinary sixth sense when it comes to iron. + [5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25%] Iron Gathering Speed on the map.

When sending out a march to gather resources, the game typically selects the best Heroes for the task automatically. For example, if you’re gathering Wood, the game will assign Eugene, and if you’re gathering Iron, it will select Smith. You’ll also notice that the Expedition Skills listed in the table above refer to each Hero’s second Expedition Skill. Each Hero also has a primary Expedition Skill, which boosts in-city production for the corresponding resource in your resource buildings, enhancing your overall resource generation.

What Affects Gathering Speed

Whiteout Survival Gathering Speed Boost

Although the main thing to affect your gathering speed is a Hero’s Expedition Skills, there are a few other things you can also do to speed things up. Firstly, you can use special Gathering Speed Boost items, these increase gathering speed by 100% can be bought for Gems at the following rates:

  • 8hr Gathering Speed Boost – 250 Gems
  • 24 Gathering Speed Boost – 600 Gems

In addition to this, you can also complete several research projects in the Research Center which improve gathering speed even more. These research projects are found in the Economy Tech Tree and should be a focus for all players. Next up, you can also increase your gathering speed via your Island with certain buildings improving the speed of gathering different resources. For example, the Blacksmith building improves the speed of gathering iron and the Flower’s Secret building improves the speed of gathering Wood. Finally, if you are able to unlock any Skins for your city, these will often include a gathering speed buff.

Protecting Resources

Unfortunately, if your gathering game is on point, and you are saving up for an expensive build, it is likely that you will have a huge number of unprotected resources in your city. This means you are at great risk from PvP attacks, with players looking to plunder all your resources. Although an option is to always shield, this is clearly not a great use of your Gems. Alternatively, there are a few things you can concentrate on to increase your proportion of protected resources:

  • Use Them – the first thing to do is simply upgrade your buildings as soon as you have the resources available. Alternatively, if you have a peaceful server, you can look to set off big upgrades just before Brothers in Arms or State of Power commence so that your resources are reduced significantly.
  • Upgrade Your Storehouse – this is the building where all your resources are stored. In addition, it can protect a certain number from being plundered during PvP. The amount of resources that are protected will increase as you upgrade it. You can click on the building and then select the Details tab to view your current level of protection.
  • VIP – As your VIP level increases you will also gain a small buff to your Storehouse protection. For help with improving your VIP, check out our guide on How to Improve Your VIP Level Fast.
  • Resource Buildings – aside from gathering, resource buildings also play a huge role in your economy. In particular, they also are great for protecting your resources from being plundered. Indeed, any resources produced in your city are considered Secured Resources and cannot be taken. You can view your current level of Secured Resources by selecting the resource button from the header bar next to your profile picture as shown in the picture below.

Tips for Improving Your Gathering

Finally, in this Whiteout Survival Gathering Guide, let’s take a look at some quick tips you can implement right away to ensure your gathering is as efficient as possible:

  • Offline Gathering – whenever you are offline, always ensure you have sent out your marches to get resources on the State map. At most, leave just 1 March Queue not gathering. Instead, as mentioned in our Tips for Beginners, this 1 should be left to Auto Join rallies.
  • Maximize Your March Queues – to increase the number of resource spots you can gather from at once you’ll need to increase your number of available March Slots. This can be done via VIP and Research for a maximum of 5. One further slot can be bought in a pack for a total of 6.
  • Upgrade Expedition Skills – don’t neglect the appropriate Expedition Skills for your Best Gathering Heroes. Indeed, make sure these are upgraded as soon as you are able to.
  • Gathering Speed Boost – always have this active, especially during the relevant Hall of Chiefs and King of Icefield stages.
  • Musk Ox – once Pets become available in your State, you will be able to unlock the Musk Ox. This Pet has an Expedition Skill that instantly finishes one of your gathering marches.
  • Alliance Territory – make sure you have Teleported into Alliance Territory so you can benefit from all alliance bonuses. This includes gathering speed bonuses from captured buildings and research.
