Keep reading for all you need to know about Gems in Whiteout Survival.

How to get Gems

Despite Gems being the premium currency in Whiteout Survival, there are plenty of ways to get them even as a free player. In the next sections, we outline all the best ways that could easily see you accumulating a few thousand in just a couple of days.

Alliance Contribution

How to Get and What to Spend Gems on in Whiteout Survival - Alliance Contribution

One of the simplest ways to accumulate Gems every day is to just be in an Alliance and make sure you are contributing towards tech research every day. Rewards are paid out on a weekly and daily basis to members depending on their overall contribution ranking within the alliance. However, most importantly, this includes Gems, as well as Alliance Tokens (great currency for buying Teleporters). For example, if you finish 1st place, you will receive 300 Gems for the daily reward and another 1,500 Gems if you finish top within the weekly ranking.

Occupations

As covered in our Whiteout Survival Tips for Beginners, being in an active and powerful Alliance is of huge importance for several reasons, including Occupations. This is essentially the process of capturing buildings on your State’s World Map such as Fortresses and Facilities. For example, for the first occupation of a level 2 Weapons Facility, you will gain 2k Gems, even if you didn’t help out in capturing it! On top of this, these buildings also come with extra buffs to your account such as increased damage.

Daily Missions

Another avenue for easy Gems is the Daily Missions. At certain point milestones you will unlock a Daily Mission Chest with these often containing a small amount of gems. Likewise, you should focus on completing the Chapter Quests when you first start on a new State for a healthy supply of Gems. Growth Missions can also be a useful source but to a much lesser extent.

Arena

Next up we have the Arena rewards as a place to get Gems on a daily and weekly basis. Even if you don’t rank high, the Gem rewards are pretty decent. Just ensure you are completing your 5 free Arena attempts every day and you will get 100 Gems minimum for the daily rewards and 200 for the weekly rewards. Obviously, this gets much higher if you can place in the higher ranks.

Chief Approval

Your Chief Approval rating is determined by how happy your survivors are with rewards paid out on a daily basis depending on the highest rating you achieved that day. To earn Gems, your approval rating must reach 90%+. As mentioned in our Whiteout Survival Tips for Beginners, to do this, ensure you they are well fed by the cookhouse, have the best Shelters, and all buildings have comfort, warmth, and happiness furniture upgraded as high as possible. In addition, you can activate the Festivities Chief Order to add an instant +50 to Mood and +30 to Comfort.

Packs

Like all 4X Mobile Games, the game’s premium currency can also be purchased for real money via the various packs for sale in the game. Of course, this can be pretty expensive and should not be the only avenue you rely on for Gems. Indeed, there is really no reason to get Gems this way unless you absolutely want to be one of the strongest players in your State, and even then, it will still take an enormous amount of money to be a Whale.

Events

Lastly in this list of the Best Ways to Get Gems in Whiteout Survival, it is worth mentioning events. These are just the regular events that take place on an ongoing basis, such as Foundry Battle and Alliance Mobilization. Almost always, these will include some kind of gem reward by taking part. There is nothing really special to mention here, simply by being an active player, you will pick up these Gem rewards.

Best Things to Spend Gems On

Now that you know all the best ways to get free gems in Whiteout Survival, it is worth discussing all the best things to spend them on. This is often an area where both new and old players go wrong, by spending their hard-earned Gems on inefficient things such as resources and speedups. Keep reading as we reveal all the best activities to spend your Gems on so you can avoid this trap.

VIP

How to Get and What to Spend Gems on in Whiteout Survival - VIP

VIP is often overlooked, however, in our opinion, it is easily one of the most important things in Whiteout Survival to focus your Gem spending on in Whiteout Survival. Depending on your VIP level, you gain huge boosts to your account such as improved Construction Speed and increased March Queues, as well as daily rewards of Hero Shards and Skill Manuals.

The fastest way to accumulate VIP Points, outside of spending money, is to buy them with Gems. Points can be bought at a rate of 1,000 for 2,000 Gems. This is of course not very cheap, but if you combine it with VIP points gained from daily logins and those bought in the Alliance Shop, you can start increasing your VIP level pretty fast. Ideally, as a F2P player, you are aiming to get to VIP level 7 for the daily free Mythic General Hero Shard. Along the way, you will also pick up an additional March Queue at VIP 6, another Squad Slot at VIP 5, and increased Construction Speed at VIP 4.

2nd Builder

Although, in our Whiteout Survival Tips for Beginners, we recommend spending real money on a permanent 2nd Builder, you can also buy a 2nd Builder for gems. It costs 1,000 Gems for 48 hours, which is well worth the expense.

Lucky Wheel

The Lucky Wheel is probably the event that most players spend their time saving up Gems for. In this event, you spend Gems to buy spins of a wheel that rewards you with Shards for a specific Hero, depending on the Hero Generation you are currently in, and can see you getting that hero up to 4 stars if you max out your spins on 2 Wheels. Each time the Lucky Wheel occurs, you can buy up to a total of 120 Spins which will cost you 162,000 Gems. This is key to getting some of the Best Heroes for F2P Players.

This is an achievable amount to save if you spend your Gems on nothing else but the Lucky Wheel. It is a highly recommended strategy to pursue once you are at VIP 7, especially considering the first Hero on the wheel is Zinman who is easily outmatched by future Hero Generations. The Hero in the Lucky Wheel changes about every 2 occurrences of the Wheel with the introduction of the next generation of Heroes. Flint will appear after Zinman and represents a great upgrade on your starting Defense Hero, Sergey.

Arena

Next up as a place to spend Gems is in the Arena. However, this should only really be done if you are a spender and are aiming to place in the top ranks. You can buy up to an additional 5 challenges each day, on top of the 5 free ones, for 100 Gems each.

VIP Shop

Although spending Gems in the VIP Shop should generally be avoided, you will sometimes find some useful items in there. For example, Chief Stamina, which can be bought for 100 Gems per 10 Stamina Can, and Advanced Teleporters which can be bought for 2,000 Gems instead of the usual 4,000 Gems.

Hall of Heroes

Lastly, in this list of the Best Things to Spend Your Gems on in Whiteout Survival is the Hall of Heroes. Here, you can use Gems to buy tokens which can be exchanged for specific Mythic Hero Shards depending on your current Hero Generation. However, it is recommended to focus instead on the Lucky Wheel, unless you are a Whale, as this offers much better value for money.
