Marvel Snap is Marvel’s newest game created by Second Dinner Studio Inc. Available on mobile gaming stores and Steam, Marvel Snap offers a completely new dynamic when it comes to using characters from all over the Marvel Universe. In this Marvel Snap Beginner’s Guide, you will learn all you need to know to get a start in this new digital TCG.
Marvel Snap Overview
In the past, Marvel games have focused on the idea of recruiting heroes/villains and using them to battle against other players online. Marvel Snap adopts this idea of clashing online with others, however, the recruiting and battling process is not the same.
In this Marvel game, players collect Character cards with each having its own special effect on gameplay. These are then used to create 12 card decks which you will use in matches against other players. These matches operate as simple 1v1 battles.
When a player first creates an account in the game, they are given a set of random cards (a mix of heroes and villains). These cards will be assigned to your first Deck. As you win matches you will start to unlock more cards to improve your deck. Keep reading this Marvel Snap Beginner’s Guide for more information on how to start winning and unlocking additional cards.
How the Gameplay Works
Each online match lasts for a total of six rounds. The game layout consists of three different locations in the middle of your screen. Each individual location possesses special effects on your and your opponent’s cards. For example, these effects could include:
- Cards cost 1 less.
- Cards have +5 Power.
- Cards that cost 1 can’t be played here.
- When you play a card here, double its Power.
- 6-Cost cards cost 1 less.
The end goal for each player is to try and win 2 out of 3 of the locations. To win a location, you must position more power in that spot than the opponent can by the end of the 6 rounds. A maximum of four cards can be placed in a location by each player. Each of these cards will have a certain power value which is added to your location score when played.
You start each game with 4 cards in your hand from a 12-card deck. To play a card, however, will cost you energy. In round 1 you are given 1 energy to spend, in round 2 you are given 2 energy to spend, and so on until round 6 where you are given 6 energy to spend on cards.
The more powerful the card, the higher the amount of energy it will cost to use. For example, if a player has 5 Energy to spend for the round, they can either use one extremely strong character card (Hulk, Abomination, etc.) or use multiple smaller cards that may only cost 1 Energy each (Hawkeye, Quiksilver, etc.). Either option is acceptable, but it has to be beneficial to a player’s strategy in some way.
Marvel Snap Collection Level
Your Marvel Snap Collection Level is perhaps the most important thing to focus on for your account. This is the main way to unlock more cards for your decks. Each time you hit a certain level milestone, you will be rewarded with something. This can include Cards, Boosters, and Credits.
It is of course therefore important to understand how to upgrade your collection level. Thankfully this is actually pretty easy. All you need to do is upgrade one of the cards you own. To do this, you simply need to play matches and at the end of the match, you will be awarded Boosters for a random card in your collection. Once you have enough Boosters for that card, you will have the option to upgrade it for a certain Credit cost.
In addition to this, you can also use the Shop to fast upgrade some of your cards. All it will cost you is a certain amount of credits. The higher the level you are upgrading the card to, the more credits it will cost you. The shop regularly rotates, so you will have the option of plenty of cards to upgrade here if you have enough credits. This is one of the quickest ways to give your Collection Level a boost.

Marvel Snap Rank
Another important factor to consider in this Marvel Snap Beginner’s Guide is your Rank. This refreshes each Season and is another way to get some quick rewards. You can go up to a rank of 100 with rewards paid out at various milestones. These rewards can include Gold, Card Backs, Avatars, Credits, Cards, and more.
To upgrade your rank you need to win matches against other players. Each time you win a match, you gain between 1 and 8 points toward your rank. However, if you lose you can also lose this amount of points after you have reached rank 10!
Each match you play will start with 1 point available to be won. This can be doubled by selecting the Cube icon in the top middle of the screen at any point. It can be doubled by either player up to a maximum of 8 points available. It is good to remember that you can always retreat from a game if you know you will lose and the points are getting too high. You don’t want to lose and drop down a rank.
How To Get More Cards in Marvel Snap
Marvel Snap is a very straightforward game. As such, by far the easiest way to get more cards is simply by battling online and winning! However, with that being said, there are some ways to try and speed up this process.
This includes methods such as upgrading your Collection Level, through the Season Pass, and from the Shop. Check out our full Marvel Snap Card Collection Guide for more information on these methods and more.
Tips For Winning in Marvel Snap
When every player creates an account in Marvel Snap, they are given a deck of randomized character cards to use and level up. Although that may seem tacky, this forces a player to truly create an effective strategy for battle. An effective method to follow is to operate based on what the pillars are offering.
For example, it wouldn’t make sense for a player to drop a 1 Power card on a pillar that may offer “-1 Power for all cards placed here”. This would be considered a trap, and therefore not a good spot to place certain cards. Follow what the pillars are saying, and there is a higher chance you will come out as the victor.
Another tactic is to start upgrading your cards as early as you can. Upgrading your cards will improve your collection level which will unlock more cards for your decks. These will be very useful as you refine your strategy and create specialized Decks.
