Controller Review: Leadjoy M1C+ Type-C for iPhone and Android

Leadjoy has expanded its lineup with the new M1C+ iPhone and Android Controller, a sibling to the well-received M1B model. Similar to its predecessor, the M1C+ maintains its position among top-tier mobile controllers, competing with brands like Backbone, Razer, and GameSir. In this Leadjoy M1C+ iPhone Controller Review, we’ll explore the key features of this controller, how it performs in the field, and why we think you can’t go wrong with picking up this great value gamepad.

Design and Build Quality

Leadjoy M1C+ Controller

The Leadjoy M1C+ arrives in an exclusive-looking white box, maintaining the premium presentation of its predecessor. The classic extendible mobile controller design is immediately recognizable and remains a standout feature. While the fully extended controller may feel a tad flimsy versus other model designs, such as the robust GameSir G8 Galileo, similar to the M1B, the inclusion of a rubber cushion ensures a secure fit when your iPhone or Android is in place. Indeed, we tested it using the pretty large Redmagic 8 Pro and didn’t have any concerns about it dropping out during a pretty vigorous race in Asphalt 9.

Like the M1B, the M1C+ incorporates all the expected buttons of a console controller, providing versatility for a wide range of gaming actions. The controller still includes a dedicated button for capturing videos and screenshots, preserving those epic gaming moments. A notable improvement is the transition to USB-C for connectivity, which replaces the Lightning Port on the M1B, allowing you to use this with both Android and the newer iPhone models.

Leadjoy M1C+ Controller with Phone

Powering the M1C+ is a passthrough charging feature, located on the bottom of the controller’s right-hand side. Users can conveniently keep their phones charged during extended gaming sessions. For on-the-go charging, the Anker Nano 10,000mAH Power Bank is recommended, ensuring you’re not tied to a wall socket. In addition, the controller also features a cooling conduction plate which allows you to attach most magnetic phone coolers with ease. Quite a big bonus in this day and age of high-powered mobile games!

Two drawbacks from the M1B persist in the M1C+. Firstly, there’s still no audio port for wired headphones, necessitating the use of Bluetooth headsets or relying on loudspeaker audio. Secondly, securing your phone into the USB-C connection may feel a bit fiddly, requiring careful handling to avoid accidental drops. They missed a trick by not having this as a rotating connection.

Connectivity

The M1C+ maintains the gold standard of a hard connection, utilizing the USB-C port for a swift and responsive gaming experience. This eliminates the latency issues often associated with Bluetooth controllers, ensuring instant responsiveness to button clicks. Plug-and-play functionality remains a strong suit, with no additional software required for seamless compatibility.

Compatibility

Leadjoy M1C+ Games

Compatible with newer iPhones sporting a USB-C connection, and most Android phones for the same reason, the M1C+ is a truly versatile controller. In terms of gaming, compatibility relies on individual titles embedding controller support. However, we tested the controller with top titles such as Genshin Impact, Fortnite, Call of Duty Mobile, and Diablo Immortal which are all confirmed to work seamlessly with the M1C+. In addition, it supports cloud gaming with all the well-known streaming services such as Amazon Luna, Xbox Remote Play, and Steam Link.

Gameplay

Putting the M1C+ to the test in popular games like Genshin Impact, Diablo Immortal, and Asphalt 9 reveals impressive performance. The mechanical feel of the buttons ensures tactile feedback, confirming each button press, and with the hard connection via USB-C, users experience no latency issues. Lastly, the extendable arm, though feeling slightly delicate when fully extended, provides a secure grip when your phone is securely clamped in place. Indeed, there’s no concern about your device slipping during intense gaming sessions.
