Clash Royale Golem Guide

The Golem is one of many troops that has been summoned to Clash Royale from Supercell’s other popular title, Clash of Clans. Golem is an extremely powerful and intimidating tank that is capable of absorbing massive amounts of damage due to its insanely high health while also dealing significant blows to enemy towers. In this Clash Royale Golem Guide, we shall give you all the details to make the most of this card.

Is Golem Good in Clash Royale?

Clash Royale Golem Guide

Golem has, in fact, one of the highest Hit Points (HP) among all cards in Clash Royale, making it an excellent tank for absorbing damage from enemy troops. It costs 8 Elixir and it moves slowly, granting you enough time to build up Elixir and deploy support troops behind it.

When the Golem is taken down, it explodes into two Golemites, dealing area damage in the process. These Golemites move at the same speed as the Golem but deal lesser damage to towers and buildings.

For those who like to play heavy decks, or decks that support heavy pushes, Golem is one of the best options you can have. His high HP allows you to either back the Golem or apply pressure to the opposite lane.

Best Golem Deck in Clash Royale

Golem decks often average 4.4 Elixir and these decks contain about 4 support troops to complement its strengths and cover its weaknesses. To build a considerably strong deck, you need to ensure the following areas are covered:

  • Up to 2 Spells – Lightning/Zap/Log/Tornado/Freeze/Clone/Barbarian Barrel
  • Up to 4 support troops – (Night Witch/Witch/Wizard/Mega Minion/Baby Dragon/Archer Queen/Magic Archer)
  • Up to 2 mini-tanks – (Prince/Dark Prince/Lumberjack/Mini P.E.K.K.A)
  • Elixir Collector (if necessary)

Buildings except for Elixir Collector are generally not required in Golem decks. This is due to the fact that most Golem decks focus on attacking, and with the addition of a defensive building, the strength of the deck reduces drastically.

Suggested Golem Decks

Below are some of the Golem decks used by popular Clash Royale players:

  • Golem, Lightning, Night Witch, Baby Dragon, Lumberjack, Tornado, Mega Minion, Zap.
  • Golem, Night Witch, Graveyard, Skeletons, Electro Wizard, Mega Minion, Poison, Log.

How to Counter Golem in Clash Royale

Countering Golem in Clash Royal can be a difficult challenge, especially when it is being supported from behind. However, like everything in Clash Royale, it can be countered with the right strategy. Next in this Clash Royale Golem Guide, we take a look at the best strategies you can employ to do exactly this.

  • Building Placement – be it the Inferno Tower, Tombstone, or any other, all buildings should be placed in between the two towers. These defensive buildings distract the Golem away from the tower and can save you time to take it down.
  • Swarms – swarms like Skeleton Army are the best counter to Golem if it is left unsupported. Though the swarm may be taken down after the explosion of the Golem, it should have saved the tower from destruction.
  • Mini tanks – mini tanks such as Mini P.E.K.K.A and Prince are slightly better options than Swarms as they are strong, deal significant damage, and can survive attacks from the supporting troops.
  • High-damage cards – cards such as the Inferno Dragon, Mighty Miner, and Inferno Tower deal significant damage to any tank. To perform this counter, place the Inferno Dragon just beside the tower and use other troops to distract the supporting troops. This also allows you to perform a counter-attack soon after eliminating the enemy troops.
  • Split-push – this technique is quite risky, but it has the capability to bring you a massive lead over the opponent. With this technique, instead of dedicating all your resources towards defending against the Golem, split the troops and apply pressure on the opposite lane. This forces the opponent to defend the other lane whilst leaving the Golem vulnerable.

Clash Royale Golem Tips

In the final section of this Clash Royale Golem Guide, we bring to you some tips and tricks on how to use Golem in the best way possible.

  • Elixir Advantage – when you deploy a Golem, it is almost certain that the opponent will have an Elixir advantage. Therefore, before deploying the Golem, make sure that you have enough resources to defend a tower in this period of Elixr imbalance. Otherwise, your opponent will seize on any weakness and push towards the opposite lane knowing the fact that you have insufficient elixir.
  • Support Troops – the presence of support troops behind Golem is highly essential in the demolition of a tower. Support troops such as the Night Witch, Witch, and Baby Dragon are among the most-used support troops for Golem. Place the Golem at the far back near the King tower, by the time he reaches the bridge with his slow movement, you should have sufficient Elixir to back it up with the support troops.
  • Spells – these play a vital role in most decks. When it comes to Golem decks, the use of Lightning or Zap can turn out to be a game-changer as it helps the Golem to stand longer against troops that deal significant damage over time such as the Inferno Dragon and Inferno Tower.
  • Defensive Measures – while Golem decks intend to go full-on toward one lane, it is important to have defensive measures in place so as to counter any enemy attacks. Support troops in Golem decks also tend to act as defensive troops, so use them wisely.
