Clash Royale Currencies and Items
As outlined above, there are several different types of currencies and items in Clash Royale that you’ll want to get your hands on. The rarest of these are of course the most valuable in terms of what you can get for them and should not be wasted. In the following sections of this Clash Royale Currency and Item Guide, we take a look at all the different ones available, how to get them, and how best to use them.
Clash Royale Gold Coins
Gold Coins are a type of Clash Royale currency that can be obtained by methods as simple as winning a game. They can be used to upgrade cards, purchase cards from the daily shop, trade cards, and a lot more. It is recommended you save these coins to upgrade cards since maintaining a card at its highest level boosts your chances of winning games due to the improved stats.
How to get Gold Coins in Clash Royale
Gold Coins are one of the easiest Clash Royale currencies to accumulate. They can be collected by winning games, opening chests, trophy road rewards, etc. You also receive Gold Coins by donating cards to your clanmates. The number of Gold Coins, however, depends on the rarity of the card. Epic gives the most Gold Coins per donation, while Common gives the least. So, join a clan right away and keep donating to earn some Gold Coins.
Clash Royale Gems
Gems are a very rare currency in Clash Royale that are only obtainable only by a handful of methods. They can be used to purchase Coins, instantly open a chest, buy chests, complete trading, and finish other offers in an instant. Gems are hard to find, so make sure you only use them when absolutely necessary.
How to get Gems in Clash Royale
As mentioned, Gems are a very rare currency that are difficult to accumulate. Some of the methods of getting this currency in Clash Royale include the following:

- Mid-Challenge rewards

Clash Royale Upgrade Cards
Upgrade Cards are the cards required to upgrade a card to its next level. The number of cards required increases at every level, with level 15 needing the most upgrade cards.
How to get Upgrade Cards in Clash Royale
Upgrade Cards can chiefly be obtained from chests. However, you can also purchase Upgrade Cards from the Daily Shop, Trader, and even by requesting them from your clanmates. Lastly, Upgrade Cards can also be attained by playing different events and challenges.
Clash Royale Season Tokens
Season Tokens were introduced in Season 46, and it has now taken over an entire tab in the Clash Royale menu. These tokens can be used to purchase a variety of content from the Season Shop, the shop that has items purchasable only using the tokens. From Gold Coins to Banners, you can get your hands on almost anything owing to Season Tokens.
How to get Season Tokens in Clash Royale
You can collect 1,000 Season Tokens a day by playing the different modes that are available, and up to 7,000 Season Tokens if you choose to increase the daily capacity by spending Gems. Losing doesn’t matter here, as the number of Tokens gathered depends on the following:
- Towers defended (50 Season Tokens per tower defended)
- Elixir spent (1 Season Token for each elixir spent)
- Towers destroyed (100 Season Tokens for every tower destroyed)
- Win Multiplier (x1.5)
Clash Royale Elite Wild Cards
Season 48 saw a drastic change in the Clash Royale dynamics with the introduction of Card Evolution and Elite Levels for example with Royal Giant. Up until Season 48, the max level a card could be upgraded to was 14, but it is 15 now and this level is termed as the Elite Level.
How to get Elite Wild Cards in Clash Royale
To upgrade a card to the Elite Level, you will need to collect 50,000 Elite Wild Cards irrespective of the rarity. It is nearly impossible to upgrade many cards in a short time span as it takes an extremely long period of time to collect the required numbers, considering that there are only two ways to gather the wild cards:
- If a card is maxed out at level 14, obtaining the same card from chests, or any other means, will see it automatically converted into an Elite Wild Card. The number of wild cards obtained is based on the rarity – the higher the rarity, the more the Elite Wild Cards.
- You can also convert Magic Items into Elite Wild Cards, however, there is a catch here. To be able to convert the Magic Items, all the cards from the said rarity must be maxed out, i.e., all the cards must be fully upgraded to Level 14.
