Skeletons are popularly regarded as the weakest troops in Clash Royale, which is factually right. Indeed, they really only prove useful when used en masse, which brings us to the Skeleton Army. The Skeleton Army, widely known as ‘Skarmy’ among professional and Esports players, is a swarm of skeletons that can demolish any single-target ground troop. In this Clash Royale Guide, we will be looking at the basics, best decks, counters, and some tips to use the Skeleton Army.

Is Skeleton Army Good in Clash Royale?

The Skeleton Army comes in a 15-strong swarm and is capable of eradicating any single target troops or troops that target buildings. As such, cards like the Knight, Elite Barbarians, P.E.K.K.A, and Golem, among many other single-target cards, will be crushed by the swarm. The level of the skeletons relies on the level of the card, i.e., the Skeleton Army will deploy Level 10 skeletons if the card is upgraded to the same level.
The Skeleton Army costs just 3 Elixir, and it proves to be an incredible asset to any deck. Indeed, it can fit in any deck as a ground-defensive card and come in clutch at important times. Though its downsides do overshadow its benefits, the Skeleton Army makes a decent backup card for decks that require ground support.

How to Counter Skeleton Army in Clash Royale
As a swarm card, there are 3 reliable methods to take them down. These are outlined in the list below:
- Splash troops: Troops that deal splash damage to their targets consider the Skeleton Army like a pinch of salt. Due to their splash-damaging abilities, all the skeletons can be blown away from the arena. Always have one troop of such kind, like the Wizard, Executioner, Witch, etc. so as to help you tackle the Skeleton Army as well as act as a support unit for your attacks and defenses.
- Spells: Since the skeletons have a negligible amount of health, they can be taken down by spells such as the Log, Arrows, and Zap. Use one of these cheap spells if you wish to save the splash troop(s) for another purpose, which is likely to be the case in expensive decks.
- Air Troops: Skeletons only target ground troops, leaving themselves vulnerable against troops above them. Though there are no air troops that deal splash damage, the Skeleton Army can still be taken down. Here, we use a swarm for a swarm, i.e., swarm troops like Bats, Minions, and Minion Horde can be used to eliminate the swarm of skeletons.
Tips to Use Skeleton Army in Clash Royale
Next up in this Clash Royale Skeleton Army Guide, let’s take a look at some tips to help you use the Skeleton Army to its utmost potential:
- Valkyrie’s favorite target: The Valkyrie is a ground troop that deals massive damage to any number of troops around her. Since the Skarmy is one of the few ground swarms, it is best to avoid the Valkyrie among other troops that deal splash damage. Instead, take down the Valkyrie by other means and save the Skarmy to take down other troops that could potentially harm your tower.
- Block Damage-Over-Time Troops: In order to block a troop like the Inferno Dragon from turning the tower into ashes, use the Skarmy before it engages with the tower. The Inferno Dragon would then be caught up with the Skarmy, taking all of them one by one and meanwhile allowing the tower to comfortably eliminate the Inferno Dragon.
- Save Skarmy for tower-targeters: Skarmy is best utilized as a defensive unit against those troops that target the towers. When the opponent deploys a Hog Rider, Ram Rider, or any such troops, place the Skarmy right in front of the troop in order to take them down before they reach the tower. Such players usually have a Log spell to defend their troops, which makes the Skarmy almost useless at any point in the game. However, this defect can be removed if your deck works as a Log Bait deck that contains many swarms or a deck that can trigger the opponent’s Log more often than just for the Skarmy.
