King’s Choice Pet Race Guide

The King’s Choice Pet Race event sees players pitting their pets against each other in fast-paced races towards a finishing line. This event occurs both as a server and cross-server event, presenting a great opportunity for Knight Aura items such as Shield of Glory and Holy Sword. However, ranking high enough for a good number of these requires a solid understanding of this event and some strong strategy for selecting the best mix of Race Skills you have available. In this King’s Choice Pet Race Guide, we look at all this, helping you ascend your way up the ranks and attain the best position possible.

Races

King's Choice Pet Race

When taking part in a race, your pet is pitted against the pet of 4 random players from the competing servers. The race track is a 350m straight line with random obstacles in the way to slow competitors down. How fast a pet walks or runs, how quickly it recovers running stamina, and how capable they are at dodging obstacles are all determined by its attributes and the Skills they have equipped. Below are listed some key mechanics you should understand before reading further in this King’s Choice Pet Race Guide.

  • Stamina – All pets start races with 0 stamina which slowly increases as they walk. Once their stamina reaches 100 they start to run. Skills and attributes have an effect on how quickly stamina replenishes or how much stamina is required before they start running.
  • Running – As mentioned above, a pet will start to run once they reach the required stamina. This increases their speed significantly which has a direct relationship with the physique attribute of a pet. A pet stops running once their stamina reaches 0 again.
  • Walking – When a pet is not running then they are walking. During this time they accumulate stamina to enable them to start running again. The walking speed of a pet is decided by their obedience attribute.
  • Obstacles – During a race there are likely to be a random number of obstacles that look like (and are sometimes referred to as) Spikes in the way of the course. Hitting these will bring your pet to a complete stop for 1 second. A pet’s intelligence attribute increases its chances of dodging an obstacle.
  • Puddles – A random number of these will be present during races depending on the weather. When walking through a puddle, speed is reduced by 50%.
  • Sand Piles – A random number of these will be present during races depending on the weather. When running through a sand pile, 6 extra stamina is consumed every second.
  • Weather – Each race will have different weather conditions affecting the tracks. This can include rain which increases the number of puddles, storms which increase the number of sand piles, sun which has no effect, and clouds which increase the number of obstacles.

Scoring

Depending on your final place in the race, you will receive a different amount. As you’d expect, 1st place receives the most with last place the least as follows:

  • 1st – 100 points.
  • 2nd – 75 points.
  • 3rd – 55 points.
  • 4th – 40 points.
  • 5th – 30 points.

To participate in the King’s Choice Pet Race, you must use Participation Chances. These accumulate at 1 every 30 minutes up to a maximum of 10. Attributes

Selecting a Pet for the King's Choice Pet Race

A pet’s attributes are crucial to how a pet performs in different aspects of the King’s Choice Pet Race event. For example, one attribute will increase walking speed whilst another will increase running speed. The relationship between the 5 different attributes and the Pet Race are outlined in the list below.

  • Obedience – increases a pet’s walking speed.
  • Physique – increases running speed.
  • Liveliness – increases stamina recovery speed when walking.
  • Friendliness – decreases stamina consumption speed when running.
  • Intelligence – increases obstacle evasion chance.

Bloodlines

Any bloodlines your pets have can also play an important role in your performance during the King’s Choice Pet Race event. In particular, you will want to use a pet that has the Pet Race bloodline which gives you extra race chances each day the event is running. The effect of this bloodline increases as it reaches different ranks based on your pet’s attributes as outlined in the table below.

Tips and Strategy

Many players treat the King’s Choice Pet Race Event as purely a game of luck or as a money pit where the person who can take part in the most races is likely to be the winner. Although more chances will of course help, there are some particular things you can do to improve your chances of placing well in the ranking. All of these strategies and tips are covered in the list below.

  • Keep an eye on the weather – the weather during a race plays an important role in determining how many obstacles, sand piles, and puddles there will be during a race. If your current skill build focuses on running as much as possible then you may struggle in storm conditions where more sand piles are present and in which stamina consumption is increased significantly. In this scenario, you may be better off changing your skills to focus on walking speed just for this race.
  • Switch up your pets – don’t just blindly pick your pet with the highest total number of attributes for each event. Think about your skill build and which attributes synergize best with it. For example, if you have skills that increase the number of obstacles, then you will want to pick a bet with high intelligence to increase their chance of dodging them.
  • Breed your pets – make sure you are constantly working on your pets by breeding them with those of other players. This is so as to ensure you are always increasing the attributes that will play an important role during this event. In addition, it is a good idea to focus your breeding efforts on a pet with the Pet Race Bloodline so you can take advantage of its effect.
  • Think about your skill builds – don’t just randomly pick your skills, put some thought into how well they all complement each other. For example, if a skill decreases your intelligence whilst another increases the number of obstacles then this combination will actively work against your chances of winning a race as you are more like to hit the obstacles you have added to the race!
  • Keep an eye on the opposition – before starting a race, make sure to study the attributes and skills selected by the opposition. For example, if you see skills that are going to increase the length of puddles, then you may wish to pursue a running strategy versus a walking strategy.
