The best guide on how to play and build Charizard in Pokemon UNITE for Nintendo Switch and Mobile devices. Read on to find out everything about Charizard including the best builds, Held and Battle items, move sets, as well as some general tips!
Charizard is a true classic, a starter from Gen I, a Pokemon of such legacy and myth in the franchise that its name has reached those far outside of the target audience. It is therefore not surprising that Charizard was one of the early Pokemon in Unite.
This guide will let you in on a few tricks you can pull with Charizard, as well as which builds to run, to maximize your win rate with this extremely popular All-Rounder Pokemon. Stick around and find out if Charizard is the character for you!
Is Charizard Good in Pokemon Unite?

Charizard is an All-Rounder with a high damage output that can easily tip large-scale team battles in his team’s favor. However, it performs best late in the game. Making the early game one of survival where you scramble for experience points everywhere you can.
Try to avoid getting into battles as much as possible to avoid being a target for stronger early-game Pokemon. Additionally, you want to think about taking the bottom lane and sticking with a Support who can bail you out of trouble. Charizard performs quite poorly in the top lane and especially the jungle.
Because of this, Charizard is often criticized as being a poor choice of Pokemon, although nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact, when it comes to statistics, he frequently places in the top 10 of win rates for any given week. Charizard is a machine for carrying your whole team in the solo queue because of its simplicity of play and massive late-game potential.
Also worthy of note is that Charizard’s Standard attack animation allows for movement, thus you can stick to your opponent’s back while chasing him for maximum pressure. It also hits anyone in its cone hitbox, unlike other basic attacks, therefore it’s advisable to target enemies in the back, and move to a position where you will catch their buddies in the crossfire.
Charizard’s kit is versatile and well-balanced with any combination of moves viable, letting you pick the ones that fit your playstyle the most. But, at the same time, not every combo of moves was made equal. Let’s take a look at Charizard’s Moveset and combos now.
Pokemon Unite Charizard Best Build

Charizard’s passive ability is Blaze. And it is as simple as passives in Pokemon Unite get! It increases the crit rate of all your attacks and moves when your HP falls to half its maximum capacity or less.
Charizard does not have boosted attacks like the other Pokemon in the game. Instead, his whole basic attack is completely unique! As we mentioned before, Charizard’s basic attack locks onto an opponent and fires 4 waves of damage toward it. During this time you are free to move however you want. Bonus damage is dealt to Pokemon who are currently being burned by Charizard’s offensive moves.
The first move Charizard gains is Flame Burst. With this, Charizard sends out a fireball traveling forward, exploding on contact with the first enemy hit. It deals damage and burns enemies in a small area of effect. Charizard gains a burst of movement speed when the attack lands. Enemies hit get burned.
Move 1 Upgrade Options
The first upgrade option for move 1 is Flamethrower. Charizard continuously breathes fire in the selected direction while moving, damaging, and burning enemies who make contact with the blaze. Charizard gains a burst of movement speed when using the move. Enemies hit also get burned.
The other upgrade option for move 1, Fire Punch makes the Pokemon turn into a blazing fist while dashing forward a small distance, damaging and shoving enemies in their path. While this move can hit multiple opponents, only the first enemy hit gets burned.
While both upgrades are viable, and you could pick them based on your preference (melee vs ranged playstyle), it’s clear that Flamethrower is just better. Fire Punch’s hitbox and travel distance are simply too small. You will rarely hit a group of opponents unless they stack on top of each other. But in such case, Flamethrower is still better, because it will burn all of them instead of just a single enemy!

Move 2 Upgrade Options
Moving on, we have the second move which is Fire Spin. With this, Charizard shoots a fiery inferno toward the target location. The inferno explodes on contact with an enemy or after traveling its max distance. It deals damage and slows any enemies it hits.
The first upgrade option for move 2 is Fire Blast. Fire Blast behaves exactly like Fire Spin, but upon detonation, it leaves a fiery area that burns enemy Pokemon standing within it.
The second upgrade is Flare Blitz. Charizard locks onto a chosen target, dashes toward it while generating a shield for itself, and then proceeds to throw the enemy behind it.
These two moves are much closer together. However, Fire Blast is considered stronger due to the DPS, control, and team fight potential it generates. Despite this, Flare Blitz is still a great option to force enemies out of position or to rush into the enemy backline.
Charizard’s Unite Move

Charizard gains Seismic Slam at level 9. He grabs an enemy and slams him into the ground, damaging the target and nearby enemies and dealing additional damage based on their max HP. He then flies up into the air, allowing him to fly over any obstacles and gain immunity to any stuns or disables. During this time Charizard can auto-attack enemies from above, setting them ablaze. It also heals for the majority of the damage dealt during this time.
Charizard’s Best Skill Loadout
The best Charizard loadout is pairing Flamethrower with Fire Blast. This loadout is great for staying out of the range of enemies coming for you, while also controlling the battlefield with Fire Blast residual fire. Charizard is a true menace in team fights where his damage is scary, thus he is almost always targeted by enemies.
