Evony PvP Tips for Beginners

PvP in Evony is some of the most high-stakes gameplay you can take part in. Indeed, you can lose your entire army for good with one wrong move. However, the rewards for being successful can be incredible. For example, getting huge resources from defeated enemies or a massive haul of Gems in the Server War. Read these Evony PvP Tips for Beginners to learn some strategies to help you excel.

Learn to Ghost Your Troops

Evony Troop Ghosting for PvP

Understanding how to ghost your Troops is easily one of the most important PvP Strategies you can learn in Evony. It is a way of protecting your Troops when you drop your bubble and hiding them from any Scouts.

To do this, you basically need to set long alliance rallies on inactive player Keeps or Boss Monsters. When this is done, your Troops are hidden and even if someone attacks your Keep, none of your ghosted Troops will be attacked. This can allow you to make quick counters by dropping the rallies and going for the enemy when they’re not expecting it.

This skill takes time to master and you’ll need to incorporate some of the other strategies in these Evony PvP Tips for Beginners to perfect it. Make sure to test out in a safe environment such as BoG before jumping into the Server War.

Create March Pre-Sets

Having march pre-sets pretty much goes hand in hand with ghosting your Troops as one of the most important strategies you can use. This is the process of setting up marches in your Rally Spot with specific Troops and Generals.

Doing this allows you to ghost different attack types, for example, a Ground march and a Ranged march. Once fully ghosted, you can then scout the enemy before dropping the ghost rally that will best counter the defending Troops and set off a swift attack to take them out.

Optimize your Generals

Of course, having a bigger army in Evony is not all that matters, the Generals you use will play a huge part. You’ll want to ensure you are using Generals that offer the most buffs for your dominant Troop Type in the march. For example one of the Best Evony Ranged PvP Generals if your march consists mostly of Ranged Troops.

In addition to picking the right General, you will want to make sure they are kitted out correctly. This includes giving the right Equipment that is also refined for PvP and also making sure they have a full suite of Skill Books that will complement them in battle.

Protect your Generals

Ghosting your Troops will only protect your Generals that are in those marches. Therefore, you must also be aware that if you have any Generals that are on Duty or in Subordinate Cities, they are open to being killed if you are attacked with no defense.

To prevent this from happening, ensure that you remove any Duty Generals from their buildings that you don’t want to risk dying in an attack. Additionally, you will want to unlink your Subordinate Cities so they don’t try and defend against a huge attack alone.

Use March Speedups

Use Evony March Speedups for PvP

Speed is a key element of Evony PvP. You need to act as fast as possible to ensure the enemy is unable to sort their defense out or bring in allies to help defend them. Therefore, you must make heavy use of any march speedups that you have. Don’t be afraid to use several of these in a single attack to see your attack hit instantly.

This also works very well with attacks from a distance. Attacks from a distance keep your target unaware that you are watching them from 200km away. You can then hit them extremely quickly when the moment is right with liberal use of your march speedups.

Work with Your Alliance

Another important factor in Evony PvP is communication with your alliance. Working together, you will be able to have more information than the enemy and organize your attacks more efficiently. For example, an ally could be poised to rally with you in an instant, scout the enemy on your behalf, or even send a surprise reinforcement if you are under attack.

Scout

As hinted at in the previous PvP Beginner’s Tip, information is key for any battle in Evony. Scouting the enemy will give you a good idea of what Troop Types they have in defense and whether or not there are any extra reinforcements helping defend them.

Once you have your report, make sure to adjust your attack appropriately. Maybe you’ll want to send a completely different march or perhaps you’ll want to call it off altogether after learning the enemy has only Ground Troops whilst you have Mounted Troops which will be easily slaughtered by the Ground Troops.

Set your Monarch Gear

Monarch Gear is an area that players often forget about in Evony, and not just for PvP! However, the buffs from these can really turn the tide in the battle. Before launching an attack ensure you have equipped the right ones for the Troop Types you will be using. Read our Evony Monarch Gear Guide for more information on this.

Don’t Forget about Sub Cities

Evony Sub City Buffs for PvP

Sub Cities are absolutely vital when it comes to Evony PvP. Indeed, when you pick the right Generals as the mayor, they are a huge source of debuffs to the enemy army. Read our Evony Sub City General Guide for more details on the best Generals for your Sub Cities during PvP.

Buff Up!

Aside from optimizing your Generals, Sub Cities, and Monarch Gear, there are several other buffs you can take advantage of to improve the potency of your attacks. The below list outlines some of those you definitely consider implementing:

  • City Buffs – by clicking on your Keep, you are able to apply City Buffs. This includes increasing Troop, Attack, Troop HP, Troop Defense, and March Size, all very useful for PvP.
  • Shrine Buffs – if you offer a certain amount of times at the Shrine, you will unlock King’s Protection. This grants your Troops additional buffs for a limited amount of time.
  • VIP – increasing your VIP level can also add some useful PvP buffs such as troop death into soul rate and improved healing speed.
  • Cultures – different Evony Cultures have different buffs. Picking one that aligns with your PvP march can add a little extra punch to your Troops.
  • Monarch Talent – as you level your Monarch, you are able to add more Talents. Certain ones will help you out in PvP, for example, the Rescue talent will reduce your number of killed Troops.

Layers

Any march you send out to attack should always have troop layers. There are many competing theories about how this is best used, but at its most basic for beginners to the game, it involves ensuring that you have one main Troop Type used and then an array of different troop levels and Troop Types sprinkled in on top but at much lower numbers than your main Troop.

This could include, for example, having the march composed of 90% of the main Troop Type across 3 high levels and then the final 10% an assortment of different Troops as the layers. The theory is, that Troops target only one enemy type per round. Layering, therefore, disrupts enemy Troops from only targeting your main Troop Type at once.
